I’m a freelance writer based in Seattle, Wash. Before moving to the Seattle area, I lived in Annapolis, Md., Arlington, Va. and New Rochelle, N.Y. I’ve covered many different topics as a freelancer. Go ahead, click on them! Though I loved learning new things every time I wrote an article, I’ve recently narrowed my focus to parenting, food and business innovation stories. I also write a family relationships blog, “Hereditary Insanity,” which I update on Mondays. I worked as a professional journalist for five years, and since then, I’ve worked as a writer for a green energy nonprofit and two federal agencies. To break into the journalism business, I wrote obituaries and briefs at Gannett newspapers (now the Journal-News) in Westchester County, N.Y. My first full-fledged reporting job was in Washington, D.C., where I covered green fuels and vehicle technologies for New Fuels & Vehicles Report, now part of Energy Washington. I left to become editor of AIR Daily, a national newsletter covering air pollution, environmental issues and emissions trading, before moving to the nonprofit sector. I returned to journalism in 2004 as a freelancer. Since then, I’ve worked as a regular contributor for Bay Weekly and What’s Up Annapolis in Annapolis, Md. and freelanced for OnTap in Washington, D.C. Most recently, I have published in Latitudes and Attitudes, a national sailing magazine and ParenMap, a Washington parenting magazine. I write mostly features and have published parenting, food, profile, humor, boating, home, social services, health, and celebrity stories. Please see my selected articles on the clips pages.
